Formative Community

Spiritual formation is not just about prioritizing what you do but who you do it with.

How we do community profoundly matters. Community is an essential part of being a follower of Jesus. We must move from the commoditized, vast, shallow networks to deep, formative communities. In Acts 2, the Spirit of God poured out upon man, and the disciples of Jesus were filled with his presence. It was a radical experience.  What did the early church do when the presence of God tangibly fell upon man? They formed small resilient communities pursuing the ways of Jesus.

Community is formed in prolonged proximity in an intentional direction.

Formative Communities are small groups of individuals gathering together to pursue spiritual formation and active participation in the mission of Jesus.

In other words, a community centered around living the greatest commandment and fulfilling the great commission.

Formative Communities have a shared theology, rule of life, and mission. Practically, this looks like weekly time encountering God, reading the scriptures, sharing in the Eucharist, and the sharing of the Gospel.

Faith Formation Project is establishing its first formative community in Atlanta, Ga.

We are excited to share more of this journey in the future.
